Effect of aluminium on the absorption and transport of phosphorus in two sorghum cultivars

The uptake and transport of radioactive P was studied in sorghum hybrid CMS X S-903 and CMS X S-106, sensitive and tolerant to Al, resp. P uptake by excised roots increased in both with the conc. of Al in the nutrient sol., but was significant only at 10 p.p.m. Pretreatment of the with Al resulted in a 42% reduction in P uptake by the sensitive while the tolerant was unaffected. The amount of P precipitated in root tissue was 44 and 38% for the tolerant and sensitive cv., resp.
