Effect of different proportions of herring meal in the diet on the digestibility of energy and crude protein and on some blood values in growing pigs

Effect of different proportions of herring meal in the diet on the digestibility of energy and crude protein and on some blood values in growing pigs

Zeitschrift fur Tierphysiologie, Tierernahrung und Futtermittelkunde 44(1): 3-6

ISSN/ISBN: 0044-3565

Castrated fattening pigs of the Edelschwein breed were given a basic diet without herring meal or with 25%, 50% or 75%. Groups of 3 pigs were fed on one or other of the 4 diets during 3 successive growth periods from 40 to 95 kg liveweight. Some peculiarities were observed in connection with the 75% herring meal ration; this diet was not completely consumed and gave a very high protein intake, sometimes in excess of 1 kg daily.
