Effect of fertilizers (N.P.K) on the seed weight, protein content and oil composition of cotton seed (G. hirsutum)

In field trials during 3 kharif seasons, cotton 320F was given 0, 40, 80, 160 or 320 kg N/ha as (NH4)2SO4 in 1968 and '69; and 0, 20, 40, 80 or 160 kg N/ha as urea + 60 kg P2O5/ha or 60 kg K2O/ha or both P and K in 1970. With increasing N rate, av. 100-seed wt. increased from 5.97 to 6.64 g, seed protein contents increased from 20.97 to 23.60% and oil content decreased from 20.6 to 9.5% in 1968-9.
