Field trials in 1972-4 were conducted to determine effects of 0-180 kg N/ha and row directions on grain components and yield of wheat Moti (a triple dwarf), Sonalika (a single dwarf) and NP 824 (tall) grown in pure stands and a systematic mixed stand designed to give a pyramid canopy for increasing the penetration and absorption of solar radiation. Applied N increased tillering, ear length, spikelets and grains/ear and 1000-grain wt.
