In trials with cowpea given 10-1000 p.p.m. phosfon-D [chlorphonium] as a foliar spray or soil drench, application of 100 p.p.m. phosfon-D as a soil drench and a foliar spray gave the highest seed yields of 903 and 867 kg/ha, resp., compared with 687 kg in untreated crops. These treatments also increased the contents of protein, ether extract, sugar and starch in seed.
