In field trials at Bahtim in 1978-80, wheat Giza 157 was sown after cotton at rates of 37.5-75 kg seed/feddan in rows 10, 20 or 30 cm apart and given 0, 30, 60 or 90 kg N/feddan. The highest sowing rate in rows 30 cm apart gave the highest grain and straw yields of 14.13 ardeb and 6.30 kg/feddan, resp., in 1979 over all N rates compared with 11.7 ardeb and 5.57 kg, resp., at the lowest sowing rate in rows 10 cm apart.
