Winter wheat was sown on 3 dates between mid Oct. and early to mid-Dec. in 1976-7 and on 4 dates between mid Oct. 1978 and mid-Feb. 1979 at 250, 400 or 550 viable seeds/m2 and was given 3 N rates. Grain yield increased with lateness of sowing in all yr, except for the Feb. 1979 sowing, mainly because of reduced incidence of Alopecurus myosuroides and Pseudocercosporella herpotrichoides.
