Effect of temperature on the behavior of wheat (Triticum aestivum L. em Thell) lines carrying resistance genes to black stem rust (Puccinia graminis Pers. f. sp. tritici Eriks and Henn)

When 68 resistant varieties and lines were tested in growth chambers by inoculation with six biotypes of the pathogen, many were more susceptible to particular biotypes at 30 deg C than at 15 deg C, the change being apparent in some at 20 deg C and in others at 23, 25 or 30 deg C. The absence of this type of temperature sensitivity was associated with particular resistance genes and those which conferred strong resistance at all temperatures are listed for each biotype.
