Effectiveness of selection in irradiated populations of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.)

Effectiveness of selection in irradiated populations of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.)

Agricultural Research Journal of Kerala 17(1): 145-147

Achenes of the Soviet varieties VNIIMK, Peredovik Armavir and Armavirets (sunflower from Armavir) were gamma irradiated with 20-40 kR. In the M2, all the plants which flowered within 50 days of sowing were selected and selfed. The mean number of days to flowering in the M3 was appreciably lower than in the control after selection for earliness in the M2.
