Effects of Elcar (Heliothis zea nuclear polyhedrosis virus) treatments on Heliothis spp

The short-term (larval mortality) and potential for long-term effects of treatments with Elcar (a preparation of the nuclear polyhedrosis virus (NPV) of Heliothis zea (Boddie)) on larval populations of Heliothis spp. were investigated in laboratory and field experiments in the USA. The laboratory data suggested that H. zea NPV affects the reproductive capacity of adult females surviving treatment in the larval stage.
