Effects of parity and month of calving on casein yield, casein percentage and casein number in Q-DHAS Holsteins

Effects of parity and month of calving on casein yield, casein percentage and casein number in Q-DHAS Holsteins

Research Reports, Department of Animal Science, McGill University: 30-33

Data on 583 Holstein-Friesian lactations (representing 34 sires) in 63 herds were analysed. Casein yield was highest in the 4th lactation, but casein percentage and casein number (percentage of casein in total protein) declined to a constant level from lactation 5 onwards. Lactations begun in Mar. and Apr. had the lowest casein yields but the highest casein percentages.
