Effects of pulsation, liner movement and milk flow on the milking of Prealpes du Sud ewes

After a preliminary period of 28 days 192 Prealpes du Sud ewes were divided into 8 groups for a 98 day trial. Treatments compared were: pulsation rate 60/min at ratio 33% or 180/min at 50%; pulsation vacuum 33 or 42 cmHg; and diam. of teatcup outlet of 3.8 mm or 8 mm with short milk tube diam. 7 and 10 mm resp.; milking vacuum was 33 cmHg. Liner displacement was about 7 mm with the higher pulsation vacuum and 5.5 or 3.5 cm with the lower pulsation vacuum and low or high pulsation rate resp.
