Evaluation of nitrogen fixation by alfalfa under different drought stress levels using a line source sprinkler technique

A line source sprinkler system was used to evaluate N fixation under a gradient of drought stress. This system produced a water application pattern that was uniform along the length of the irrigation line and continuously, but uniformly, variable at right angles to the sprinkler line. Plants growing near the sprinkler line received an opt. amount of water, while those growing at a distance from the line received less than opt. amounts.
