Abstract
For 145 days, 3 groups of 12 Black Pied cattle, 12 to 13 months old and weighing initially 313.7 kg, were given complete, pelleted feed mixtures with straw 30, 41 or 55, concentrates 50, 40 or 27%, feed units 0.75, 0.68 or 0.60/kg and crude protein 82, 73 or 58 g/kg. Mean daily gain was 1140, 1021 and 807 g; intake of feed units was 8.2, 9.1 and 10.9 and of protein 834, 935 and 995 g/kg gain; slaughter yield was 60.6, 59.0 and 55.9% and carcass meat 82.9, 82.5 and 79.9%, respectively. Digestibility of nutrients and the utilization of nitrogen decreased with increasing straw in the diet.
