Feeding behaviour of underyearling hybrids of the female grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) and the male bighead (Hypophthalmichthys nobilis) on selected species of aquatic plants

Feeding behaviour of underyearling hybrids of the female grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) and the male bighead (Hypophthalmichthys nobilis) on selected species of aquatic plants

Journal of Fish Biology 18(2): 127-134

Underyearling hybrids from the cross female grass carp and male bighead, averaging 104.8 mm total length, were stocked for two weeks in cement tanks holding 605 litres of water with various combinations of submersed or floating aquatic plants. The submersed species most preferred were Ceratophyllum demersum, Chara sp. and Najas guadalupensis. Hydrilla verticillata, Hygrophila polysperma, Myriophyllum pinnatum and Utricularia foliosa were fed on from a minor to a moderate extent.
