Investigation of the differentiating compression phloem by the methods previously used (FPA 5, 770) showed that the phloem developed more rapidly than the xylem and, in general, active compression phloem was similar to normal active phloem. The ultrastructure of different types of cell in developing phloem is shown in detail in electron micrographs.
