In a study using 4 rice differing in salt and alkali tolerance grown in 16 sol. with SAR values of 2, 25, 50 and 75 mM the DM yields of all after 35 days decreased at all salt conc. as SAR increased. The relative yield depression, however, was highest at the lowest salt conc. and lowest at the highest salt conc. The DM yields decreased in all as SAR and/or salt conc. increased; IR26 (salt- and alkali-sensitive) suffered most, while the salt-tolerant accumulated less Na+ and Cl- than IR26.
