Genetic evaluation and utilization (GEU) program. Drought resistance. Soil-plant-water relationships in rice. Drought tolerance under limited rooting depth

Annual Report for 1978: 100-102

The method for screening rice for drought tolerance at shallow rooting depths (40 cm) was modified and 105 rice lines and were evaluated for drought tolerance and ability to recover from stress. Cultivar were sown in sets of 3/steel drum including the susceptible control Moroberekan and regularly irrigated with equal amounts of water until seedling establishment. They were then allowed to dry until Moroberekan was apparently dead from moisture stress.
