Heritability and repeatability of milk production, milk fat and milk protein in Holstein-Friesian and Polish Black-and-White Lowland cows

Milk production, milk protein (yield and percentage) and fat (yield and percentage) were recorded for 57 dam-daughter pairs of Holstein-Friesians (HF) and 165 pairs of Polish Black-and-White Lowlands (PBWL) over the first two 305-day lactations. Milk production averaged 6143 and 5859 kg for the HF dams and daughters resp., and 4637 and 4278 kg for the PBWL dams and daughters. Milk protein averaged 3.32 and 3.20% (205 and 187 kg) for the HFs, and 3.45 and 3.46% (160 and 147 kg) for the PBWLs.
