Horn fly production as affected by seasonal changes in rangeland forage conditions

In studies in Texas in 1977, cattle dung was collected throughout the year and tested with laboratory-reared examples of Haematobia irritans (L.). The results showed that there were production peaks in populations of the fly similar to those present in the field at the time of sample collections. The numbers of flies produced, pupal weights and adult emergence rates were highest during the period of peak forage growth.
