Hornbeam in the stands of the Kanev reserve

Hornbeam in the stands of the Kanev reserve

Lesovedenie (2): 35-41

An investigation was made of the status of Carpinus betulus in the Kanev forest reserve (635.5 ha) in Cherkassy province, Ukraine, close to the eastern limit of the area of the species in the forest-steppe zone. As a result of repeated fellings, the former hornbeam/oak forest has changed into a forest of pure hornbeam or with hornbeam dominant.
