Host non-preference and antibiotic resistance to the aphid Metopolophium dirhodum in winter wheat cultivars

The resistance of 4 winter wheat cultivars to natural infestations with Metopolophium dirhodum (Wlk.) was evaluated in field-plot tests in Hampshire, England, in 1979. Total infestation (aphid unit days), adult weight, number of pigmented-eyed embryos inside adults and the proportion of flag leaves colonised were measured. In general, the cultivar Huntsman was the most susceptible to attack and Atou the most resistant.
