Host parasite relations of Meloidogyne incognita on beet, Beta vulgaris

Host parasite relations of Meloidogyne incognita on beet, Beta vulgaris

Egypt: Proceedings of the 4th Conference of pest control, 30 September 3 October, 1978, Cairo, Part II: 889-894

Seedlings of Beta vulgaris Detroit were inoculated with Meloidogyne incognita (1000, 2000, 4000 or 8000 larvae/plant) in a glasshouse experiment. Plant growth decreased and root knot index increased with increasing inoculum levels, a maximum reduction in plant growth occurring with 4000 larvae/plant. Histological changes in galled roots were characterized by zones of hypertrophic and hyperplastic cells at the feeding sites.
