Host response of germfree and conventional mice to single and mixed intestinal Trichinella spiralis and Trichinella pseudospiralis infections

Host response of germfree and conventional mice to single and mixed intestinal Trichinella spiralis and Trichinella pseudospiralis infections

Trichinellosis Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on trichinellosis, 1-5 September 1980, Noordwijk aan Zee, The Netherlands: 237-241

Swiss mice exposed to mixed infections of 300 T. spiralis and 300 T. pseudospiralis larvae or of 100 T. spiralis and 500 T. pseudospiralis were examined for muscle larvae after 33 and 47 days. T. spiralis larvae always outnumbered those of T. pseudospiralis. Both encapsulated and non-encapsulated larvae were seen. In experiments with germfree (GF) and conventional (CV) C3H mice infected with 500 T. spiralis larvae, more intestinal adults were found in CV than in GF mice.
