Host tolerance, a short-term pest management tool - maize and corn rootworm as a model

Host tolerance, a short-term pest management tool - maize and corn rootworm as a model

Plant Protection Bulletin, FAO 28(4): 137-138

In field studies in Minnesota in 1972-73, infestations with Diabrotica virgifera Lec. caused higher root damage and lodging to susceptible maize inbreds than to tolerant inbreds. However, larval survival was much higher on the tolerant inbreds. This confirms the contention of M. D. Pathak (1970) that tolerant crop varieties may be more inducive to pest population build-up than susceptible varieties.
