Host-specificity in cereal parasites in relation to their control

Host-specificity in cereal parasites in relation to their control

Applied Biology Volume V: 349-393

Host-specificity is often of great significance to the plant breeder attempting to breed varieties resistant to particular diseases or arthropod pests. A breeder using only a single clone or isolate of a parasite in the course of selection for resistance may fail to produce a variety with effective or durable resistance. It is necessary to investigate the range and type of variation occurring in the parasite as well as in the host and to study the interactions between them.
