Household, family and economy in a Korean mountain village

Household, family and economy in a Korean mountain village

Dissertation Abstracts International, A 42(6): 2748-2749

A study is made of the interrelationships between family, household organization and the agricultural system in a village of rice and dry grain cultivators in the mountains of Kangwon Province, Republic of Korea. An interaction is found between household subsistence needs, productivity, labour requirements, household size and compostion, and landholdings. Class differences in household size and composition result from differences in inheritance, migration and death rates.
