7643 White Leghorn females and 956 males were housed in cages at a density of 14 birds/m2 (24 females + 3 males per cage), and a similar number of birds was housed on deep litter at a density of 4.6 birds/m2. For the 2 groups resp., egg production rate was 58.7 and 47.3% at 6-7 mth of age, and 50.8 and 55.8% at 15-16 mth (average = 61.6 and 58.0%).
