Hoverflies (Diptera, Syrphidae) of various spruce forest vegetation tiers of the CSR

Hoverflies (Diptera, Syrphidae) of various spruce forest vegetation tiers of the CSR

Casopis Slezskeho Muzea, Vedy Prirodni A 30(1): 45-61

A study of the fauna of Syrphidae in 15 plots of 5 spruce forest vegetation tiers in Czechoslovakia ranging from 240 to 1250 m above sea level indicated the presence of 63 species belonging to 31 genera. Episyrphus balteatus (Deg.) was the most abundant species in all 5 locality types, accounting for around 20--33% of all individuals captured; Parasyrphus annulatus (Zett.) and Syrphus torvus O. S. were also frequently recorded. Of the species captured, 85% were known to be aphidophagous.
