How Finns beef up Ayrshire's yield

How Finns beef up Ayrshire's yield

Dairy Farmer 28(10): 81, 83

Continuous selection for beef characteristics as well as milk production has led to the Finnish Ayrshire (FA) becoming a successful dual-purpose breed. FA account for 80% of all inseminations, and 90% of the 720 000 dairy cow population in Finland. In 1979, 267 759 milk recorded FA cows averaged 5461 kg milk containing 4.4% fat and 3.37% protein.
