How female are the completely female gherkin cultivars for once-over harvesting?

How female are the completely female gherkin cultivars for once-over harvesting?

Zaadbelangen 34(9): 255-256, 258-259

Outdoor gherkins are harvested by hand in the Netherlands. Once-over mechanical harvesting could reduce costs but in preliminary field trials with predominantly female cvs, where fruiting resulted from pollination and not parthenocarpy, results were not satisfactory. Recent developments in breeding female gherkins are outlined and results presented of variety trials investigating the effects of temperature and light intensity on growth and sex expression.
