How many drinks a day?

How many drinks a day?

JAMA 242(18): 2000-2000

A moderate intake of alcohol (i.e., two drinks per day) promotes a lower rate of coronary heart disease by increasing high-density lipoprotein levels, which act as cholesterol scavengers and by moving cholesterol to the liver where it is excreted through the bile. However, some people have an inborn biological makeup that does not permit them to handle alcohol in a moderate manner. It can be predicted these people will be unable to stop at two drinks per day. It is therefore necessary to weigh many factors before recommending a moderate alcohol intake as a CHD preventive.
