How midges swarm: a spatial temporal analysis of Chironomus riparius flight by computer

How midges swarm: a spatial temporal analysis of Chironomus riparius flight by computer

Proceedings of the Indiana Academy of Science 89: 207

A laboratory colony of Chironomus riparius Mg. was established to study the swarming behaviour of the flies. An initial analysis of swarming demonstrated that its duration depended on the swarm marker size. For large markers, the duration was independent of the number of midges in the cage.
