British Sugar Beet Review982; 50(13): 54-56



Many UK beet growers are still spending too much on nitrogen fertilizer, and are ignoring the recommendations of the Sugar Beet Research and Education Committee. As is pointed out in their Guide, profitability declines beyond an application rate of about 120kgN per ha on mineral soils following cereals. Rates should be reduced to much lower levels on organic soils, or where FYM is used.
