How to detect soil sterilant damage in ornamental trees and shrubs

How to detect soil sterilant damage in ornamental trees and shrubs

American Nurseryman 153(3): 9, 94-97

The symptoms caused by several soil sterilants, including prometon, diuron and bromacil are briefly described, with guidelines for their detection. Using such sterilants to control weeds on or under asphalt or on areas to be paved often causes damage on nearby trees and shrubs whose roots may extend under these areas, and for these situations dichlobenil (which inhibits root growth) is recommended.
