How to obtain large basal area factors with an American scale Spiegel Relaskop

The use is described of the Spiegel Relaskop as a slope-compensating angle gauge for angle-count sampling. Instructions provided by the manufacturer indicate that the American scale Relaskop offers a choice of 4 b.a. factors (BAF) - 5, 10, 20 and 40 ft2/acre per tree. This paper demonstrates the availability of 6 larger BAF - 46.94, 54.44, 62.50, 71.11, 80.28 and 90.00. Rounding the BAF to the nearest 0.5 and measuring the distance to borderline trees are advised.
