Human milk feeding of premature infants <1.3 kg birthweight: milk analysis and clinical studies during early postnatal life

Human milk feeding of premature infants <1.3 kg birthweight: milk analysis and clinical studies during early postnatal life

Dissertation Abstracts International, B 42(2): 1398

Total, protein and non-protein N concn. in complete 24-h collections of human milk decreased linearly over the 1st 29 days of lactation but were significantly higher after pre-term (PT, 26-33 wk gestation) than full-term (FT, 38-40 wk) birth. Relative proportions of protein and non-protein N were similar in PT and FT milk. It was considered that PT milk would adequately supply nutrient requirements of premature infants apart from Ca and P.
