Human perinatal distribution of butorphanol

Human perinatal distribution of butorphanol

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology 138(7 Pt 1): 797-800

The perinatal distribution of the analgesic butorphanol (l-N-cyclobutylmethyl-3,14 beta -dihydroxymorphinan) was studied. 1 group of women received butorphanol tartrate intramuscularly once or twice at 1 or 2 mg at 6.3-1.4 h pre-partum. Butorphanol passed the placental barrier and was distributed in neonatal serum. Another group of women received the drug as a 2-mg intramuscular dose at 79 plus or minus 20 h post partum or as an 8-mg oral dose at 68 plus or minus 36 h post partum.
