In studying the mechanism of immunity to infection in insects, interest centres on changes in the haemolymph proteins under the influence of biologically active metabolic products of the fungus Beauveria bassiana. In an experimental investigation, the protein fractions in the haemolymph of the larva of Galleria mellonella (L.) were found to increase within 18 h after the introduction of a fungal culture fluid, and to decrease after 36 h.
