Hybrid gerbera in the open

Hybrid gerbera in the open

Byulleten' Glavnogo Botanicheskogo Sada (121): 64-69

The successful cultivation of gerbera plants outdoors on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus (in Abkhazia, 42 deg 53' N. latitude, 41 deg 11' E. longitude and 10 m altitude) is described. Both cut flower and seed yields were satisfactory and the crop could be grown economically for either purpose. Gerberas should not be grown in the open for longer than 5-6 years. Planting distances are suggested to give a final stand of 50 cm apart in the row.
