Four varieties, namely C306, WH147, Kalyan Sona and Sonalika, were crossed with a number of varieties having drought and/or Puccinia graminis resistance in a line X tester analysis. Seedlings of nine crosses which all involved C306 showed severe hybrid necrosis. It has previously been reported that C306 carries Ne1, therefore it is concluded that the other nine parental varieties must carry Ne2 to give severe necrosis.
