Colchicine was applied to the tillering nodes of nine F1 hybrids (2n = 28) of Lolium multiflorum (2n = 14) X Festuca arundinacea (2n = 42), which were male sterile, had low female fertility and had morphological characteristics intermediate between those of the parental species. The resulting C0 sectors (inflorescences with dehiscent anthers) in which pollen viability ranged from 29 to 62.3%, were cross or self pollinated to produce C1 plants.
