From a total of 22 lines with cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) from IRRI (Philippines), China, Korea and the USA, three have been used in crosses with elite breeding lines. The elite lines IR747B2-6-3 and IR10154-23-3-2 were effective maintainers of CMS while IR2797-105-2-2-3 and IR5853-162-1-2-3 were restorers of fertility to Zhen Shan 97A and V20A, from China.
