Hybrid vigour for seed cotton yield and its components in G. hirsutum L. crosses

Using the local and exotic Gossypium hirsutum varieties 5210/2833, Lankart 611, Captain 2833, Rachna, DPL16, DP25, Acala 63-75, 407-26, Mex 11, LB67, 268F, Lambright 1530, Rex SL, Ala(69)64 and B557, 12 crosses were made, six of which showed hybrid vigour for seed cotton yield over the better parent, with a maximum of 108.9% in Ala(69)64 X DP25. Heterosis was seen for the number of bolls per plant, with improvement ranging from 21.8% to 45.6% over the better parent for four crosses.
