Hybrid white cabbage cultivars for sauerkraut production

Results of 3-year experiments (1975-1977) comparing 10 white cabbage cvs grown from direct sowing or transplanting are tabulated. Direct sowing, which saved labour, produced higher yields. The best combination of yield and quality was found in the midseason Hisepta and the late cvs Predena and Hitoma. Hidena had the best quality heads, and was especially suitable for the fresh market because of the small heads. Highest yields were produced by Hisepta, Predena and Histona.
