Increasing Japanese persimmon yields using trees in high density plantings dwarfed by pruning

Bulletin of the Nara Agricultural Experiment Station (12): 22-29

When Japanese persimmon trees, Matsumoto-wasefuyu, were planted at 28, 56, 111 or 222/10a, yields increased with increasing density. The most closely planted trees yielded 2.5 t/10a in 6 years, a third of the time normally required for such a yield. The highest density plot was thinned by removing alternative rows in the seventh year. Various methods and times of pruning were also tested.
