Inheritance of some quantitative characters in Upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)

Analysis of parental, F1, F2, BC1 and BC2 data from A218 X A231 revealed (1) heterosis for yield, plant height, boll number per plant and halo length, (2) dominance ranging from partial to overdominance, depending on trait, (3) high genotypic variation and genetic advance, (4) additive and dominance variances of almost equal magnitude for yield and the importance of dominance variance for height, boll number and halo length, and (5) the predominance of additive X additive interactions among epistatic effects. Recurrent selection is recommended.
