Transverse sections of the hot pepper (cv. Karayatsubusa) placenta were examined at different stages after flowering. During maturation certain morphological changes were seen in the light microscope: the epidermal cells elongated and many osmiophilic granules were recognized in the epidermal cells in which capsaicinoid was forming and accumulating.
