When 10-day-old plants of the susceptible Delta Gold were suspended with their roots in a spore suspension of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. melonis and removed at 2-h intervals the pathogen could be isolated from roots after 8 h and from stems, 6-8 mm up the plant, after 10 h, but not from the petiole after 24 h.
