In field trials at Balcyny in 1971-3, spring wheat Carola, Gorzowska Sztywna and Ostka Popularna and oats Flamingsweiss II, Romulus and Udzyc Zolty were sown on 5 April, 22 and 28 March, or 10 days later, in 1971, '72 and '73, resp. In yr with favourable moisture conditions, delaying sowing for 10 days after the earliest possible date did not reduce the tillering or yield of wheat or oats.
